Earliest meeting: Thursday 4th April 1878
Final meeting: Friday 19th April 1901
The West Lothian village of Uphall and the tiny hamlet of Oatridge lie close to the expanding town of Livingstone. They are located some 30 miles from Glasgow and 14 miles from Edinburgh in countryside which lends itself to hunting. In 1869 the Linlithgow, Stirlingshire and East Lothian Hunt Groups combined, but it was a further 9 years before they diversified from hunting into racing. The first National Hunt meeting organised by the Linlithgow and Stirlingshire Hunt Committee was on Thursday 4th April 1878. That meeting, a seven race card was held in the tiny hamlet of Oatridge. The course, on Oatlands Farm, was described as extremely difficult to find being 2 miles from Uphall, 3 from Winchburgh and 4 from Linlithgow. However, the meeting was deemed to be a success and further meetings continued annually. At the meeting on Thursday 16th April 1896 the Foxhunters Plate, over 3 miles, was the main event and went to Frontier who got the better of Bloomfield and Chance. Meetings were confined to a single days racing a year, almost always in April, at Oatridge. Although the War in South Africa put paid to the 1900 meeting, a meeting did take place on Friday 19th April 1901, but it proved to be the last under rules. The Hunt group continued to host point to point meetings at Oatridge until 1987.
